Spiritual inability (Luke 6: 6-11)

When Dr.Luke writes about a physical disease he also points us how in parallel JESUS relates it to a spiritual disease. JESUS on a Sabbath was once again faithfully proclaiming the good news. The Scripture focuses our attention on two people here. The man whose right hand was withered and the scribes and Pharisees. The man with a withered right hand was probably termed as “useless”, because without his dominant hand he wouldn’t have found a job to do or support himself in any way. But by GOD’S grace he was able to do one thing and that is to listen to the good news preached in the synagogue. On the other hand the scribes and the Pharisees weren’t listening but were “watching” closely in order to accuse JESUS. The man with the withered hand heard, believed and did what JESUS told him to do because for one, he knew he was a man with a withered hand, two, he believed that JESUS would heal him. He listened and trusted in the message that would set him free. The Pharisees failed to listen no matter how many times HE preached about man’s spiritual inability to be right with GOD because of sin. They did not listen to the message because of their self righteousness (thinking they are spiritually healthy apart from JESUS) which was their inability. Had they recognised their spiritual inability they definitely would have seen the need for their Saviour who was right in front of them.

Are you termed “useless” because of your spiritual inability? Listen your SAVIOUR has the good news. HE has paid the debt of your sins on the cross and rose again to bestow you HIS righteousness. Come ye who are unable to be right with GOD, there is a SAVIOR who heals you!!
